Soul Moments 2002

Communion by Eveline Smith

It is early July, a Saturday, late afternoon...I'm lounging in my backyard by the waters edge under the umbrella of Cotton Woods, listening to nature's music as my being is caressed with the ebb and flow of summer and I'm consumed with emotion for indeed: I am blessed, I am thankful for my partner, family, comrades and friends... for my Soul Mates.

Taking time together. Chatting over tea, to laugh, to watch the sunset, look at the stars and gaze at the moon. Time, even, not to talk... to be still. Time so precious we feel driven to fill every available moment with conversation as if silence were a luxury we cannot afford.

From the ebb and flow of life, a few people are selected for us by fate. We never would have chosen these comrades - life chose them for us. Thrown together on this island of living, we stretch to understand each other and are invigorated by the stretching.

Then communication becomes communion and one is nourished as one never is by words for blessed is the influence of one fine, loving soul on another. Namaste... {The God in me speaks to the God in you…}

Glimpse of my Life by Lucy Richardson

I've climbed many mountains and rested on hills,
I've found myself in rivers I could not swim,
I have felt as the old trees barren and grim,
Yet at times as pretty as the sunset and the flowers on the hill.

I've climbed this mountain somewhere within;
Fell off its rocks and started again,
Never quite reaching the highest peak,
Perhaps when I reach it and touch its snow capped peaks,
I will have found some peace within.

When I Needed Her Most... by Lucy Richardson

When I was a child, "there she be,"
Always there to hold and to comfort me;
To kiss a booboo and make it well
To share in fishing and riding my bike
Catching that snowball we let fly!
Tucking us in then pull up the quilt
She always worried, "I could get a chill."
Mom was there, just when I needed her the most...

First loves, cars, motorcycles, wrecks and sorrows
Mom was always there to pick up the pieces
Just when we needed her the most...

Now marriage and grandchildren are her delight
To share in their lives feeling she is needed the most
"After all," she is thought to be the expert in these fields
Having raised six sons of her own and knowing...
"Well," they could not do without her advise so good or bad
She assumes mom is needed the most.

Even though they are grown with family, children and homes of their own
"It's still there," the knowing, mom will be there when we need her the most...
She shares in our happiness, cry's in our sorrow and tells us, "I love you!"
Letting us know she is proud and assures that mom will always be there
Just when we need her the most...

When mom is finished with her journey here on earth
We can still find her, "just when we need her the most."
We just need but to call back those loving memories of times gone by;
Of our happiness and of our sorrow
Remembering those little moments that we've spent together;
Those little words we've spoken to each other
Then, "low and behold," mom's around, just when we need her the most...

FENG SHUI - THE BLACK HAT FORM

Feng Shui is the ancient and modern Chinese art of design and right placement based on specific principles that are scientific and pragmatic. In recorded history, this art has been in existence for four thousand years.

The Black Hat form was contemorized and introduced in the United States by Master Lin Yun, a world renowned leading authority in Feng Shui. This form acknowledges that people are affected by their surroundings and environment. The purpose of Feng Shui is to harness and adjust one's immediate environment which in turn harmonizes the inner self. When understanding the principles of Chi (life force) the art of Feng Shui allows us to constantly interact or co-create with our environment. The Black Hat form assists in bringing into reality the individual's desire for positive change in accord with universal principles.

Dear Mom,

I have learned so much from you…

Your optimism taught me to look for the good in everything.

Your affection taught me to love and to care.

Your giving from the heart taught me to live a fulfilling life.

Thank you for being such a wonderful role model for me.

I love you!

Lunana Gerardis & James Fountain

To quote James, "Av as Cupid you rock!"
You see it happened just this way... While
James and I would chat the afternoon away
over coffee at the Break Espresso about our;
journaling, my art, our writing interests, my poetry
and our shared interest in Emerson's philosophies
a vivid image of Luana would pop into my head as
my inner voice naggingly, guided me forward. Of
course, vice versa when I would visit with Luana...

Av as Cupid, "May the days you share be blessings.
May the memories you make be your treasures.
May the happiness you give to each other be something
you will never be able to get enough of."
~ Namaste

Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I can
and the Wisdom to know the difference.

was born in Long Island, NY, and used to sing folk in Greenwich Village. Her travels led her to Sydney, Australia and then to Northern Queensland, where she spends a lot of time writing poetry and working on a book. Chiesa and I made our 2002 Soul Moment connection via Soul to Soul a web site that features poets from many different places and backgrounds who share a high regard for humanity and belief in the power of the pen to uplift the human heart. http://home.earthlink.net/

THE WOMAN OF BRUTE

by Chiesa Irwin

Watched by a silent madonna
bathed in flickering votive light
a woman humming a song
fixing a meal
scolding children
awaits her husband
who on arriving sheds his army coat
his phone
his gun
bringing in the smell of outside
he sits at the table
serving the meal
she watches him eat
remembering her mother said
he was a good catch
later when welcoming him into her arms
he watches the phone for a flickering light

the resting brute with mechanical weapons
and physical force
sleeping in the marriage bed
dreams he is lucky

stirring at the soul's midnight
the woman in her bed
thinks of close neighbors
silently confronting the spectre
of graves and bombed houses
of unclean people
who are tramping out of their lives
so they can live in peace
as one prideful nation

the brute sleeps on
while the woman's soul
beats sad tears
as the rising sun of another day
lights her room
the madonna is crying.
